DESCRIPTION
In a perfect setting, our anatomy in motion allows for a multitude of structures to traverse below, between and through a myriad of bones, fibrous tissues, muscles and fascia. However, trauma and/or repetitive stress may cause a change in this anatomical space causing a limitation in the ability of these structures to successfully complete their journey without impingement, or compromise. This course will explore, via gross dissection, the most commonly entrapped structures in injury of the upper extremity and further evaluate the tunnels and bridges in which they cohabitate. Further instruction will dive into strategic approaches in evaluation of these structures in order to enhance the accuracy of diagnosis. Lastly, the execution of treatment strategies and techniques, will be instructed in order to improve patient outcomes.
Learning Objectives for Upper Extremity Section
1. Review of the anatomic structures of the most commonly entrapped regions of the UE
2. The learner will gain knowledge in the most commonly injured structures that are predisposed to entrapment in the upper extremity.
3. The student will gain knowledge and skill in the assessment of entrapments in the upper extremity
4. The student will gain knowledge in establishing a treatment regime in the rehabilitation of patients with entrapment pathologies in the upper extremity.
