This course will discuss the prevalence and etiology of temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD)
You will be able to recognize the three most common causes of TMD seen within the chiropractic practice. We will outline various types of pain referral sources to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Evaluation the cervical spine and TMJ using physical examination procedures, compare and contrast TMD with cervicogenic headache will be discussed. Attendees will be able to distinguish the difference between anterior disc displacements with and without reduction, and have greater knowledge of standard imaging processes ordered for specific TMJ conditions. We will construct a treatment plan for a typical patient with temporomandibular dysfunction, discuss application of specific myofascial techniques for the muscles of mastication and associated neck musculature, as well as the coordination of care with a dental professional for patients presenting temporomandibular joint dysfunction.
