DESCRIPTION
This presentation outlines our understanding of the different reflexes which we expect to elicit in the infancy. Through the reflexes we gain an understanding of the neurological status of the infant. The effects of infant asymmetry on the primitive reflexes are discussed as well as how retained primitive reflexes affect the developing child.
• Understand the difference between primitive and postural reflexes including when to expect to elicit them
• Understand the different types of postural reflexes and when the should be present
• Gain fluent skills in the neurological examination of the infant, particularly the different reflexes
