The management of chronic pain is challenging and a source of frustration for many patients and health care providers. The successful treatment of chronic pain requires an individualized, patient-centered approach which should also consider the important role of diet and nutrition. Studies show that patients with chronic low back pain have a higher propensity for overeating as well as choosing foods that are more likely to cause inflammation. There is strong evidence that demonstrates the connection between inflammation and pain.
This course will provide an overview of how systemic inflammation can lead to nociceptive sensitivity and persistent pain. Evidence-based nutritional strategies for reversing the inflammatory state and modulating pain will be discussed. Attendees will gain a greater understanding of how to discuss nutrition with their patients and provide successful nutritional approaches for pain relief.
