DESCRIPTION
The goals of this lecture are to understand how pediatric patients engage the core muscles of the spine. This starts with an understanding of the first motor steps in infancy. Our infant patient group with asymmetry will need guidance in how to activate the nondominant side to meet their motor milestones. Through growth and development, there are different reasons why children do not have optimal posture. This is a risk for spinal pain and as practitioners we need to implement as part of our treatment plan how to help children find neutral posture and activate their core muscles.
-Understand how motor development and postural control evolve through growth and development
-Appropriate training for infants, preschoolers and children
-Understanding how obesity and atypical neurodevelopment affect motor development
