DESCRIPTION
This course will provide contemporary understanding of the interplay between physical injury and the ever present psychological and social considerations that strongly influence recovery and disability risk factors. The significance of these "yellow flags" of disability and chronicity risk will be discussed and current pain science research will be presented in order to understand: mechanisms for acute to chronic transition, how these negative psychosocial factors can promote delayed and complicated recovery patterns along with more severe pain manifestation, and treatment factors which should be considered to aid in decreasing psychosocial disability drivers and assist those with chronic pain. Outcome measurement resources will be discussed and provided.
