DESCRIPTION
Choosing between right and wrong is a neurological event. The limbic system is an “ancient” part of the human brain involved with key primordial functions, including species preservation and self preservation. The limbic system drives selfish and self-aggrandizing behaviors. The limbic system is responsible for the promotion of unethical activities and needs to be inhibited by the rational frontal lobe, in particular, the right prefrontal cortex. This class will outline the neurology of the limbic system and its modulation by the right prefrontal cortex in a practical fashion in the context of choosing ethical behaviors in practice and life in general.
